My e-dive log.

Dive Number 13

The Aquarium, Key Largo
July 23, 2012

Depth: 25 ft.
Time: 50 minutes
Weight: 8 lbs.

Unfortunately, we did not see any sea turtles, dolphins, or sharks. We did see a golden moray eel though! I wish the fish would swim around more rather than hide in the reef.

Dive Number 12

Benwood Wreck, Key Largo
July 23, 2012

Depth: 40 ft.
Time: 50 minutes
Weight: 8 lbs.

Our instructor/master diver was Owen from Rainbow Reef. We saw a barracuda, trumpetfish, arrow crab, and a fish with leopard print.

Dive Number 11

Oro Verde, Grand Cayman
January 14, 2012

Depth: 50 ft.
Time: 30 minutes
Weight: 6 lbs.

This was our second time at this dive site; we performed one of our open water dives during certification training here. It has the two bicycles at the bottom of the ocean that you can pretend to ride. Our instructor/master diver was Russ from Divers Down. We saw angelfish, a trumpetfish, and a big white fish. Still no sign of the green eel named Kermit though.

Dive Number 10

Eagle’s Nest, Grand Cayman
January 14, 2012

Depth: 100 ft.
Time: 35 minutes
Weight: 7 lbs.

For this dive, our instructor/master diver was Evy from Divers Down. We watched him kill a lionfish (because they are an invasive species that destroys the reef) and feed it to a snapper. We also saw a barracuda up close and a sea turtle swimming in the distance. I swam through a tight hole and under the rock shaped like an eagle’s beak that gave the site its name.

Dive Number 9

Kittiwake, Grand Cayman
January 13, 2012

Depth: 60 ft.
Time: 45 minutes
Weight: 7 lbs.

This was our third dive of the day! Our instructor/master diver was Keith from Divers Down. At this wreck you actually get to go inside of the ship and explore! Keith referred to it as a playground for scuba divers. We also saw a couple of stingray, a big mean-looking grouper, shrimp, and a big blue fish.

Dive Number 8

Sunset House, Grand Cayman
January 13, 2012

Depth: 60 ft.
Time: 30 minutes
Weight: 7 lbs.

We saw a lot of flying fish from the boat as we were heading towards the dive site. We requested this second site of the two tank dive because of the huge mermaid statue!

Dive Number 5

Wildlife Reef, Grand Cayman
May 16, 2011

Depth: 52 ft.
Time: 35 minutes
Weight: 8 lbs.

This was our first dive as certified scuba divers! Our instructor/master diver was Josh from Divers Down. He found a sea cucumber and made us touch it, it felt weird and slimy! We saw a lot of tropical fish, including a stingray, a big mean-looking grouper, and some type of silver fish that followed us around the whole reef. We should probably invest in a tropical fish book to learn the names of the different fish.

Dive Number 7

Big Tunnels, Grand Cayman
January 13, 2012

Depth: 105 ft.
Time: 35 minutes
Weight: 7 lbs.

This was our first deep dive! Our instructors/master divers were Dave and Keith from Divers Down. We swam through a lot of tunnels, hence the name of the dive site, which was kind of like a maze. We were right next to ‘the wall’ where the ocean drops from 60 ft. to 6,000 ft. We saw a lionfish, which are crazy to look at but poisonous. Oh, and this was my first dive using my new dive computer.

Dive Number 6

Lone Star Legend, Grand Cayman
May 16, 2011

Depth: 52 ft.
Time: 35 minutes
Weight: 8 lbs.

This dive was awesome! Josh took us around the reef and we got to swim through trenches. My favorite part of the dive was when a cute baby sea turtle swam right up to us. He was playing in our bubbles!
